Lisa Fletcher used Facebook Marketplace, an e-commerce platform which connects buyers and sellers in the same area, when she was looking for a new garden office
A beauty therapist has warned social media users after a garden office she bought on Facebook Marketplace was never delivered.
Lisa Fletcher spent £3,600 to secure a ready-built shipping container office from a man after spotting the listing on the e-commerce platform. The 46-year-old woman transferred the cash after exchanging messages and phone calls – and receiving official-looking invoices on business-headed paper.
But she had fallen victim to Facebook Marketplace scammers and the office was never delivered. Now, the beauty therapist is out of pocket – for the £3,600 office, loss of earnings, and buying and converting a new container.
To make matters worse she’d burned her old office to make room for the new one – and her bank will only refund half the amount. Lucy, who is from Evesham, Worcestershire, is speaking out after a recent study showed the number of scams on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp surging.
