A man who spent 20 years in prison for a murder he did not commite was finally released – after his twin brother confessed to the crime.

Kevin Dugar, a Chicago man who had spent almost 20 years behind bars for a 2003 murder, was released from Cook County Jail in Chicago, Illinois last week following a shocking confession by his identical twin brother, Karl Smith. This emotional reunion marked a pivotal moment in a case that has taken numerous twists and turns.

Dugar, visibly moved by his newfound freedom, broke down in tears as he was reunited with his loved ones. His lawyer, Ronald Safer, shared the heartwarming moment and said: “The judge granted his release pending trial on a signature bond, and he walked out into the open air and breathed his first breaths as a free man in almost 20 years. It was gratifying to watch his tears roll down his cheeks and their cheeks before (their tears) froze on their faces because it was about 7 below.”
