‘I thought I’d be dead by now

Natasha Wakefield was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer at 21 – and at just 22 she was told the aggressive disease was incurable. But thanks to a pioneering drug trial, she recovered

Standing on top of a mountain on the Isle of Skye, Natasha Wakefield throws her arms in the air with joy – and gratitude.

At just 22 she was given 18 months to live… yet here she was, four years later, doing something she never thought she’d be able to do again, thanks to a pioneering drug trial.

Natasha was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer at 21 – and at just 22 she was told the aggressive disease was incurable.

But then she was given the chance to take part in an experimental treatment using viruses to alert the body’s immune system to cancer cells – and two years later, Natasha’s cancer was completely gone.
