Evie suffered a cardiac arrest as she was attached to the heart device and was in intensive care for three weeks. She was so unwell, the usually-inseparable pair had to wait weeks before they could see each other. Mum Chloe, 28, who lives in Middlesbrough with bar manager husband David, 35, said: 'Evie keeps asking for a new heart so she can come home to Theo. "She's desperate to get back to him. 'They are best friends, and have the most incredibly strong bond. She follows him around like a little shadow.' Evie was diagnosed at four months old with dilated cardiomyopathy — a stretching and thinning of the heart muscle. Chloe, who works for Sunderland Council, said doctors found the condition when Evie was scanned for a persistent chest infection. Since then she has been stabilised on medication, but the drugs stopped working in March. While attached to the life-saving machine, she has battled several infections. Last week she suffered a blood clot which stopped the device. Chloe said: 'We could have lost her. Doctors said she was in massive danger.
