Kara Woodhouse has shared her recipe online – and it couldn’t be simpler. Not only is it saving her money, but she says it’s also helped with her young son’s eczema
In a busy family home, laundry can quickly pile up – and so too can your shopping bill. Buying detergents and fabric softeners can be a pricey affair, and many of us are looking for clever ways to cut down on our household bills.
One woman has taken matters to a whole new level and has started making her own natural laundry detergent – from conkers!. Not only is she claiming to save money, but it doesn’t irritate her son’s eczema.
Kara Woodhouse, 29, shared her hack on social media, stating that anyone with access to a horse chestnut tree can give it a go. Every year, from September to December, she collects her conkers, which makes enough detergent to see her through the next 12 months.
The method couldn’t be simpler. Kara bashes up the conkers with a hammer and then puts them in a glass jar that she fills with boiling water. After letting it rest for 30 minutes, she strains the liquid into another jar and stores it in the fridge until needed.
