Tara Salisbury has relived the horrific moment she lost five-year-old daughter Alysia in a fire that gutted their Pembrokeshire home, saying it was like “something out of a horror movie”
A heartbroken mum has relived the moment she heard her daughter screaming for help as their house burned down – and realised she wouldn’t be able to save her.
Tara Salisbury and her family are grieving five-year-old Alysia, who died in the fire which ripped through their home in the small village of Pontyglasier, in Pembrokeshire, on May 27. Tara, her partner and her two daughters Jessica, 15, and Abigail, 11, have only just moved into their new home, wearing donated clothes after the blaze destroyed all their possessions.
Tara described how hearing Alysia trapped in Abigail’s room was the “worst feeling” possible for any mother. She screamed Alysia’s name and could hear her call back: “Mummy”. “The whole room was just completely and totally on fire,” she said. “She was in there somewhere â I just couldn’t see her and I couldn’t get to her. I tried so hard to get in there to her but I couldn’t.”
Tara said she can barely remember anything of the aftermath of the fire, but Jess and Abi can, reports Wales Online. On the night of the fire both sisters were on the phone to the police and desperately looking for their mother while their house burned. Abi remembers the windows smashing and glass flying into the air, alight. Only minutes before they had all been settling down for the night. Lysi and Abi were having a sisters’ sleepover and Lysi had stayed in her sister’s room while she went downstairs to warm up some brioche in the oven. Jess was upstairs in her bedroom in the loft.
