Taking to Reddit, she said: "I don't wear rings or jewellery other than small earrings because of my job. I even have to take my earrings out for my hobbies. My boyfriend has been bringing up our future for a while and last fall November or December he sent me off to a jeweller to get sized. "I guessed he was giving me his mum's ring (not excited for multiple reasons) but thought, 'Oh the sentiment is sweet'. His dad upgraded her ring and unfortunately he passed away a couple years ago and she stopped wearing her original engagement ring. "I honestly couldn't remember what her ring looked like. He was sad I 'ruined' his surprise." But as soon as she saw the ring, her 'heart sank' as she struggled to come to terms with having to wear it forever. "It's hideous. Not my style at all, it looks tacky costume-like, and thick 'manly' gold with raw diamond slivers and huge gold 'prongs', I'd say almost like brass knuckles," she added. She went on to explain how her boyfriend has been 'teasing' her about proposing for a while and has recently planned a little weekend getaway. She said: "He mentioned how much he paid to get it sized and I was shocked so I blurted that he paid more than I would have liked him to spend. Before even going to be sized much less finding the ring, we discussed engagement several times. "He made me show him pictures of styles I like and saved them on his phone. I like infinity/twist bands with small pave style stones. We also talked stones including that I prefer sapphire, tanzanite, or tsavorites or even a moissanite){kind=link}
