A young woman says she was left mortified after getting black-out drunk at her very first work party, turning up late the following day. She couldn’t believe it when she heard her boss’s response
Many of us know all too well how nerve-wracking it can be to turn up to a work party when you’re the newbie, wondering if anyone will speak to you, and praying you don’t end up saying the wrong thing. One young woman ended up getting so anxious ahead of work drinks with her new colleagues that she ended up drinking a little bit too much, blacking out on what was only her second day of employment.
Aoife Mcmorrow, who recently started her first post-university job, doesn’t remember too much about the night out itself. She does however recall waking up at the hotel with a throbbing head, a phone with no battery life, and a broken charger, having missed her morning alarm. Thankfully, Aoife did make it to work in the end, albeit late, but was in for a bit of a surprise when she met her boss, MuscleFood CEO Nick Preston, for the first time.
Having assumed she’d be sacked on the spit, to Aoife’s great relief, Nick hailed her as a “record-breaking rockstar”, while the rest of the Musclefood team were also able to see the funny side of the situation. A video about Aoife’s hilariously relatable plight has clocked up more than 2million views and 172k likes on TikTok, where amused followers have praised her for being an “iconic queen”.
One person commiserated: “This is the part of office/adult life that nobody tells you about.” Another chuckled: “Miss girl is still on uni time.”
