‘I cry myself to sleep over my name

A teenager has taken to social media to share how her unique name has caused her no end of problems, saying nobody pronounces it correctly and 80 per cent of people can’t even spell it

While most parents turn to the big book of names to find a moniker for their child, others get creative and make up their own names. That’s exactly how one teenager ended up with a name so ‘unique’ that nobody can pronounce it – not even her own parents.

She explained how her mum wanted to honour her dad when naming their children, and decided to put ‘Kris’ at the start of each of their names to achieve this. Taking to Reddit, she said: “It’s currently like 5am and I just finished sobbing for a whole hour over this. I despise my name. It’s something that’s hard to pronounce and that 80 per cent of people can’t spell.

“Since my dad’s name is Christopher, everyone of my siblings is named with a ‘Kris’ at the start of it. My first two older siblings got really good names, and my other older sister got one that’s slightly confusing but everybody can say it right but mine… I think is weird.”

She went on to explain how her parents named her after Jeanne D’arc, a patron saint of France, but this only created confusion with the added ‘Kris’. “My name is Krisjeanne. Like Kris and then exactly the way you say Jeanne in Jeanne D’arc. But the thing is, my parents never call me that, in fact, they can’t even pronounce their own child’s name correctly,” she added.
