German police have called off a massive two-day search for a lioness on the edge of Berlin, saying they no longer believe the potentially dangerous animal is at large.
Tanks rolled through the streets as cops launched a 220-man mission dubbed ‘Operation Lion Hunt’ to try and find the elusive beast, deploying helicopters, thermal cameras, drones and high-powered rifles loaded with tranquillisers.
Residents were ordered to stay indoors by officers using loudspeakers, while schoolchildren were not allowed outside to play.
