Hundreds of homes are still awaiting Ukranian refugees

More than 1,200 properties pledged by the Irish public are available but have not yet been matched to Ukrainian refugees, according to figures from the Department of Children.

The new figures also show that less than one in five pledged properties are being used to house refugees, with local authorities reporting high numbers of homeowners withdrawing their offers of accommodation.

Sources said there is growing frustration with the pace at which some of the country’s 31 councils are working to fill available properties, but that there is also reluctance from some refugees to move to rural areas.
