Humza Yousaf’s independence blueprint an ‘irresponsible’ waste of public money

Scottish Secretary Alister Jack accused the First Minister of putting the SNP’s ‘obsession’ ahead of Scotland’s needs

Alister Jack has accused Humza Yousaf of a “simply irresponsible” waste of public money after the First Minister unveiled another civil service report promoting Scottish independence.

The Scottish Secretary said the SNP ministers were putting “their own obsession” ahead of the country’s priorities, such as the NHS and education system.

In a letter to the First Minister, Mr Jack said it was a particular waste given there is no prospect of another independence referendum and the Supreme Court has ruled the constitution is a matter reserved to Westminster.

He said it was “not an effective or efficient use of the record block grant” from Westminster to the Scottish Government and urged Mr Yousaf to “cease being distracted by independence”.
