Experts from a new BBC film are convinced our species would be mentally inferior

Humans trying to talk to aliens would be like ants attempting to communicate with people, astronomers believe.

Scientists have said in a new BBC film that if we were ever to come into contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life then our species would most likely be mentally inferior.

They add that maths is the likely common ground through which the two worlds will converse, even if we are intellectually outmatched.

Our Solar System is relatively young by celestial standards at just 4.5 billion years old, whereas the Universe is almost 14 billion years old.
