It should come as no real surprise that a company which produces midge repellent has reported plenty of willing recruits for a trial that sounds like prolonged torture. Those who are selected will have to stand outside for eight hours with their arms exposed to a swarm of midges, with one entirely bare and the other covered only by a coating of an experimental new insect repellent. There has been considerable interest in the trial in Argyll because, APS Biocontrol readily admits, it is paying people to take part.
