How the Huw Edwards furore split the BBC newsroom

The allegations against Huw Edwards have caused a deep division in the BBC newsroom and reignited a battle over how managers deal with claims of bad behaviour among top talent, staff have claimed.

Entrenched camps formed in the newsroom, with one “anti-Huw” group backing a strong investigation into Edwards, while a “pro-Huw” faction believes that the presenter is entitled to behave as he wishes in his private life.

The divisions have been exacerbated by the BBC’s decision to lead news bulletins on the presenter for days, with a series of allegations dug up by its own journalists last month.
