Last season, Arsenal were the Premier League’s set-piece specialists – they scored 13 goals from corners alone, which ultimately earned them nine points.
The importance of corners to Arsenal is rising, too, as their opponents have begun defending deeper in open play, leaving fewer spaces for Mikel Arteta’s forwards to attack.
With chances harder to come by in open play, Arsenal are seeking new ways to surprise opponents at corners.
The advantage of corners and set pieces more generally is that they can be practised to perfection on the training pitch and transferred into matches in a way that open-play sequences cannot. So far, Arsenal have won 47 corners (the most in the league), scoring three times from them (also the most in the league).
