The Prime Minister has paid tribute to the work his wife puts in to create important relationships
She appeared to effortlessly step up to the role of Britain’s “first lady” as she arrived in the country of her birth alongside Rishi Sunak for the G20 summit of world leaders.
Now, the Prime Minister has suggested that his wife, Akshata Murty, is playing a key role in building the “personal relationships” needed to strike deals that benefit the UK, as he said it was “lovely to have her on the trip” to Delhi.
Mrs Murty’s bare-footed kickabout with Indian school children on Friday harked back to the warm and enthusiastic public appearances by Samantha Cameron, whose husband David described her as the Conservatives’ “secret weapon” in 2010.
Both women were highly successful in their own right before their husbands entered Downing Street: Mrs Murty launched her own fashion label aimed at bringing Indian designers to a global market, while Mrs Cameron is a former creative director of Smythson.
