Tens of thousands of homes are not being built because of strict biodiversity rules
The Government should place as much importance on building homes as it does on protecting Britain’s wildlife and waterways, a House of Lords committee has said.
A new report from the Built Environment Committee has said that tens of thousands of homes are not being built because of strict biodiversity rules.
This includes regulations imposed by Natural England, which have led to local authorities blocking developments where there are concerns about the potential pollution of local rivers.
Lord Moylan, chair of the committee, said: “The current approach to managing any conflict between new homes and the needs of the environment is failing to deliver for either side.
