It may seem like a thinly-veiled insult, but fear not if you've been told you're of beekeeping age: it's actually a massive compliment, and has nothing to do with whether you're an apiarist. To be called beekeeping age means you're good looking, not just in spite of your advanced years but because of them. You're essentially rocking 40-plus fitness, style and overall magnetism – and it beats being derogatorily referred to as a boomer. The phrase comes from season four of the animated show Rick and Morty, specifically a post-credit scene featuring teen character Summer. While hanging out with friend Tricia Lange in her room, Summer's dad Jerry catches her pal's eye through the window. As Jerry tends to hives of bees in the garden, Tricia seems to thirst over him, coyly asking a disgruntled Summer how old he is and, after getting no answer, saying he's 'obviously of beekeeping age.' Tricia then goes on to call the hobby 'cute' and 'sweet', before outright telling Summer: 'I want to f*** your dad.' Why buzz about the bush, right? Although this episode originally aired back in May 2020, it's had a recent resurgence on TikTok, finding a new fanbase among young users reposting clips. This same cohort have now begun swarming the comment sections of seemingly everybody over the age of 35 on the social media platform, including the parents of teenage users.
