France 27-12 Uruguay: South Americans threaten almighty shock after France dodge red card bullet in Lille
France were given the shock of their lives by Uruguay before escaping to victory on a night of high drama at the Rugby World Cup.
The host nation, winners over New Zealand in their opening game, had Lille rocking in expectation of a cricket score.
Instead they were second best for much of the night, missed out on a bonus point and were fortunate not to lose Romain Taofifenua to a first half red card for a shoulder-to-head hit.
Fabien Galthie’s much-changed side eventually pulled away to take the spoils with tries by Antoine Hastoy, Falatea Moefana and Louis Bielle-Biarrey.
