There are four race meetings in England to kickstart November on Tuesday, when die-hard followers of the sport may be setting their alarms for the Melbourne Cup at Flemington (4am, GMT).

Flat racing comes from Redcar (12.20-4.05pm), Southwell (1.10-5.30) and Newcastle (4.10-7.45) – the last two on the all-weather – while Warwick (1.00-4.20) is the venue for the lone jumps card.

Tuesday’s nap is a colt that once finished third in a Classic in France but is now making his debut for William Haggas at Redcar. He can take advantage of a big drop in class with a victory.

Enda McElhinney’s picks for Tuesday are below. Scroll down to read the expert analysis behind them.
