Emergency services raced to the scene on Langdale Avenue at around 4.30pm with police cordoning off the area. One horrified eyewitness was out in their garden when they suddenly heard a gunshot, before reportedly hearing a woman screaming: "You shot my son". They added: "A group with a mixture of kids and adults were outside and around four of them ran down Marple Grove through the alley. I heard a woman scream and she shouted 'you shot my son'. I went to call an ambulance but could already hear the sirens." Another homeowner on neighbouring Marple Grove told the Manchester Evening News: "Shortly after 4pm I heard what sounded like a gunshot, followed by shouting and screaming. A lady on the street screamed to her kids to get inside. After about 15 minutes, a number of police vehicles arrived and then the sounds of an ambulance. All the streets were cordoned off with police tape. I am a resident who has lived here for 20 years and in the last two years, the crime rate has shot through the roof." Police remained at the scene late into Thursday evening, with a large cordon in place amid ongoing investigations. The teenage victim was described as having serious injuries from a firearm that are not believed to be life-threatening. Detectives are urgently appealing for information and have increased the number of patrols in the area as the investigation continues "at pace".
