Hopes grow for ‘Covid-free Christmas’ with infections falling

Brits are likely to enjoy a relatively Covid-free Christmas for the first time in three years, experts have predicted.

Turkey dinners for one and celebrations with loved ones over Zoom – this is what the holidays looked like for millions during the pandemic, particularly those with a weakened immune system.

With the cost of living crisis only worsening and the latest round of reshuffles in the Cabinet, that nightmare may seem like something of a bad dream right now.

But scientists have continued to track hospital admissions amid fears of a fresh wave in September.

Modelling by University College London (UCL) shows that infections are predicted to continue to decline until January, but may start to rise significantly in the New Year.
