Thousands of self-catering properties in Scotland are weeks away from being taken off the market as most owners have yet to apply for new licences.
Some 61 per cent have still not started the process even though they must have submitted paperwork by October 1 to continue operating, a survey suggests. The Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers (ASSC) said it had received responses from more than 1,270 businesses.
Industry bodies and politicians have already raised concerns about the damage the new rules for short-term lets are causing to the sector. Many owners of self-catering properties are expected to walk away rather than move forward within the “cumbersome” system.
