Drying clothes is one of the biggest expenses associated with doing laundry, particularly in winter when warm, sunny days are scarce. With the average annual running costs of an 8kg vented tumble dryer coming in at almost £200 per year, heatless alternatives are the only option for bill-payers on a budget. Airing clothes indoors is a feasible alternative, but it takes time and can contribute to excess humidity and mould around the house. However, according to Thor, the founder of Small Space Organizing, all you need is a towel to quickly dry clean clothes. In a video posted on the Small Space Organization YouTube channel, Thor demonstrated the easy “burrito method” using a clean t-shirt.Laying a towel flat on the floor, he placed the t-shirt spread out on top. Working from one end of the towel to the other, Thor carefully rolled the shirt up in the towel.Once the towel was rolled tightly into a “burrito” shape, he started to press down on it by kneeling on top of the rolled t-shirt.He said: “The reason we do this is the towel will absorb all of the water from the burrito, and once we unwrap it, it will be a lot drier.”READ MORE: ‘Completely free’ DIY hacks to ‘overhaul’ your home interior ‘Will absorb all of the water!’ Heatless ‘burrito’ towel method to dry laundry fast (Image: GETTY) Drying laundry on an airer after using the towel method is very effective (Image: Getty)Wringing out the roll also helps to remove moisture. However, this is not recommended for more delicate items made of satin or silk.According to Thor, the burrito method won’t dry your t-shirt instantly, but it can significantly reduce the drying time from overnight, down to a couple of hours. If you have more than a few items that need to be dried quickly, a clothes airer is best. However, it is important to balance the air inside your home beforehand to reduce excess humidity and moisture.DON’T MISS:Ofgem slammed over ‘inhumane’ plan to raise energy bills every 3 month [LATEST]Energy bill horror as thousands of households in dark over £400 [REVEAL]Heating expert shares top tips to keep homes warm this winter [TIPS] A hairdryer is also worth trying to speed up the trying time (Image: Getty) Drying clothes outdoors where possible is very cost effective (Image: Getty)Spin your clothesReducing the time your laundry takes to dry is often as easy as giving the load an extra spin after washing.
