"It's not easy for families to stay in prison for 30 days, it's not easy for someone who has children. "Please help us, we really need your help...There's a lot of children...they should be in school not prison". Shocking pictures from the site also show migrants crammed against a perimeter fence begging for help. The devastating letter is a tragic reminder of the migrant crisis gripping the UK and the rest of the world. Record numbers of people are continuing to cross the Channel - with 468 migrants arriving on Sunday alone. This takes the total number of migrants who have made the treacherous journey so far this year to almost 40,000. The Manston migration centre in Kent is now 3,000 people over its 1,000 capacity and continues to grow. Around 700 more people were also moved to the site from Dover after petrol bomber Andrew Leak targeted a second centre on Sunday. Manston has been described as "like a pressure cooker" after an outbreak of potentially deadly diphtheria. The former RAF airbase, which is the main processing centre for migrants before they are shipped off to hostels or hotels across the UK, has also been rocked by violent outbursts. Migrants are only supposed to remain at the facility for 24 hours while they are processed but some are crammed in for weeks.
