Eddie Hearn believes the Deontay Wilder vs Robert Helenius PPV was an ‘absolute disaster’ (Image: GETTY/ iFL TV)Eddie Hearn has branded Deontay Wilder’s pay-per-view numbers for his return fight against Robert Helenius as an ‘absolute disaster’. The Matchroom Boxing chief’s reaction comes after esteemed boxing writer Dan Rafael reported that the fight only did 75,000 domestic pay-per-view buys. The numbers mark a career-lowest PPV buy rate for Wilder whose previous low came in November 2019 when he fought Luis Ortiz for a second time with 225,000 households tuning in. With a price of $74.99 (roughly £67), the fight generated $5.6million in television revenue – at least $11million less than the Ortiz rematch.’If that is the case It’s an absolute disaster, but at the same time, it wasn’t a massive fight. I think that we’re approaching a time around the world that people are spending their money more wisely,’ Hearn told iFL TV.’And obviously, the pay-per-view price point in America is expensive. I think that when there’s a fight that most predicted would be one-sided – I didn’t think it would be as one-sided as that, but I think that the general perception was – obviously you’ve seen that with the number of buys, and it was a disaster.’On the night, Wilder scored one of the best knockouts of his career via a devastating short right hand which progresses him to a WBC final eliminator against Andy Ruiz Jr. The winner will become Tyson Fury’s mandatory for the green belt, meaning Wilder may face The Gypsy King for a fourth time.Neither man has ruled out the possibility despite the conclusive nature of their last two encounters. Fury recently teased the idea during the press conference for his upcoming trilogy with Derek Chisora on December 3 while Wilder remains hopeful of getting his vengeance. Fury said: “Who here would not want to see me versus Wilder for a fourth time? Not very many people.’MORE BOXING NEWS…Joshua ‘might be thinking about retiring’ after delaying comebackFury sparring partner lists three reasons Gypsy King beats AJ and UsykBritish boxer Cam Shaw dies at 25 while snorkelling in Australia Deontay Wilder could end up facing Tyson Fury for a fourth time (Image: GETTY)Wilder told Sky Sports: “I think that there’s definitely a chance of a fourth fight again,” “Boxing is a business. Many people call it a sport but it’s not a sport.”The heavyweight division is very small. I’m still a big fish in the business, especially here in America. As long as we’re all in the same division and all still currently fighting, why not? It only can lead to that. With all that being said, it’s definitely a possibility.”
