Harry Maguire handed brutal Man Utd snub in Wolves win after Erik ten Hag demand

Harry Maguire finds himself firmly down the pecking order at Manchester United which was underlined by his substitute snub during their Premier League opener against Wolves

Harry Maguire was given yet another reminder of his standing in the pecking order at Manchester United as Erik ten Hag made a defensive change but left the Englishman on the bench.

The centre-half has fallen out of favour under the Dutchman manager despite being a regular under previous regimes. He was quickly dropped last term and saw the captain’s armband taken away from him during the summer amid continued talk of a move away.

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are United’s first choice pairing at centre-half but with the Argentine on a yellow card, Ten Hag opted for a switch against Wolves, hauling him off and bringing Victor Lindelof on to replace him whilst Maguire was left to watch on.

The United boss was happy to spell out the former Leicester man’s options ahead of the new season with West Ham keen on the defender. Ten Hag told Maguire that he would be better off seeking pastures new if he didn’t want to fight for his place at Old Trafford.
