Erik ten Hag stripped Harry Maguire of the captaincy last week and last night it emerged that the centre back will not even be vice-captain this season.
Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese playmaker, has been named as club captain and wore the armband in the first half before he was one of ten Manchester United players to be substituted at half-time. Maguire came on at the interval, but it was fellow substitute Casemiro who wore the armband in the second half. Ten Hag indicated on Friday that a number of players will form part of a leadership group to support Fernandes in his new role as skipper.
