Tottenham forward Harry Kane has been urged to pursue a move to Bayern Munich by Alan Shearer in order to avoid breaking the Premier League all-time goal record that was set by the former Newcastle and England man. The latter scored 260 top-flight goals during his playing career to mark a milestone which has stood since his final strike from the penalty spot against Sunderland back in 2006.Kane is just 66 goals adrift of Shearer’s record, though, and has made a flying start to the current campaign with 12 goals in all competitions for Tottenham. It seems as though Shearer may be growing slightly concerned about the possibility of losing his record to Kane in the not-too-distant future, with the 52-year-old joking that the England skipper should leave the Premier League to join Bayern during an appearance on talkSPORT.After being informed that Kane is on track to score 662 goals in English football if he plays the same number of games as Shearer, the latter laughed and said: “It’s only a matter of time before he goes, isn’t it? I think Harry Kane needs to go to Bayern Munich, we need to start a campaign for it!”The German champions have indeed been credited with a desire to land Kane at the end of the season if he fails to extend his current deal at Tottenham, which is set to expire in the summer of 2024 as things stand. The north Londoners are said to be keen on tying him down to new terms but initial talks have been put on hold until after the World Cup finishes in December, according to the Evening Standard.JUST IN: Man Utd and Arsenal risk UEFA penalties after Premier League agreement Alan Shearer has jokingly urged Harry Kane to leave Tottenham for Bayern Munich (Image: GETTY/TALKSPORT)The player himself is also said to have expressed a desire to negotiate with Tottenham at some point in the near future, which suggests that Bayern could be made to look elsewhere in their efforts to land a new first-choice forward over the coming months. Kane recently insisted that he was not allowing himself to think about the possibility of joining Bayern when quizzed on the topic before Tottenham’s victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League group stages last month.”I’m focused on Tottenham and trying to do my best for us,” he told reporters. “For sure Bayern are a top, top club but all my concentration is on Tottenham and trying to win tomorrow night.”DON’T MISSReece James learns England World Cup fate after Gareth Southgate callNeville has ‘complete sense’ take on Glazers following Liverpool leadLiverpool poised for McGregor bid as UFC star ‘requests info’ from FSG Kane is only contracted to Tottenham until the summer of 2024 as things stand (Image: EXPRESS)It remains to be seen whether Kane will eventually decide to seek a move elsewhere, though, as he did in the summer of 2021 before he was denied as a result of Tottenham’s unshakeable desire to avoid cashing in on his signature. Manchester City were said to have submitted at least two nine-figure bids for Kane but saw their offers rebuffed by his current employers, who stood firm to hold on to their prized asset in spite of his willingness to leave.Kane will now be desperate to put in a good showing at the World Cup for England, with the 29-year-old expected to retain the captain’s armband for the duration of the tournament in Qatar. He could put himself firmly on the map for Bayern with a productive goal return on the biggest international stage of them all, while a strong campaign would also give him a better negotiating position in discussions with Tottenham should he wish to demand a bigger wage in any new contract.Want the latest Premier League news as we publish it on Express Sport?
