Commentators say Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s media empire is ‘crumbling’ after passing the 1,000 day mark since the announcement of their Netflix deal and relocation to the US
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have passed a bleak milestone this week, hitting the 1,058 day mark since the couple relocated to the US and announced their Netflix deal, with commentators saying their “dreams of conquering America are coming to an end”.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2020 announced that they were becoming financially independent from the Royal Family and moving to the US after announcing their new deal with Netflix worth $112million (£19.6million).
The famous couple moved into a lavish $14million (£11million) mansion in Montecito, California following the news and launched a series of large projects including their six-part controversial Netflix series ‘Harry & Meghan’ and Prince Harry’s memoir ‘Spare.’ But with readers discarding Harry’s novel and the couple’s Spotify deal collapsing, commentators are suggesting that their empire is “crumbling”.
Daniela Elser, a writer for news.com.au wrote: “Having passed the 1000-day mark of Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s American commercial empire-in-the-making, the question is more and more, is it already crumbling?” she added: “The Sussex brand was fast becoming one associated with a certain drumbeat of negativity and a proclivity to gripe.”
