Happy Valley fans baffled by Sarah Lancashire’s real accent as she sweeps NTAs

Happy Valley were nominated in the Returning Drama category and the best Drama Performance category, with both James Norton and Sarah Lancashire receiving nominations for their roles in the BBC drama

Happy Valley fans couldn’t believe Sarah Lancashire’s real accent as the BBC show triumphed at the National Television Awards.

The BBC drama was a huge hit with fans when the final series dropped earlier this year. Starring the talented James Norton as Tommy Lee Royce and Sarah Lancashire as Catherine Cawood, the final episodes came to a dramatic conclusion earlier this year that left fans on the edge of their seats. The show even broke records and its huge finale had 7.5 million viewers gripped.

Tonight, both James Norton and Sarah Lancashire were up for Best Drama performance and fans rushed to social media after finding out that Sarah Lancashire had not only won that award but Happy Valley triumphed in the Returning Drama category.

Fans were also left puzzled by her accent – with one writing: “I’m always shocked when I hear Sarah Lancashire’s real voice #NTAs,” as a second penned: “Me expecting Sarah Lancashire to have a Yorkshire accent but has a posh one instead.”
