Lewis Hamilton has admitted he doesn’t ‘really like driving’ and saves his time behind the wheel strictly for the Formula One car. The seven-time F1 world champion only likes going fast and prefers to pass on the responsibility to others due to the stresses faced on the roads in a glimpse into his life away from the sport.Hamilton, 37, boasts the most race wins, podium finishes and pole positions in F1, and has been on the road in the sport for 15 years. That has meant his experience on the roads of the UK is relatively limited, and he is far from a car-fanatic like his father Anthony.’I don’t like to drive,’ he said on Jimmy Kimmel Live. ‘People always ask me and I actually don’t really like driving unless I’m going fast. The only time I ever drive is when I go back and go and visit my parents. They’re actually in LA with us right now and my dad is driving around somewhere. ‘He loves cars and he loves driving but for me I’d rather hand the keys to my friends or something like that. I don’t like traffic, it’s more stressful for me.’ Hamilton also revealed the unexpected car that he uses when he does enjoy some rare time back in his home town in Stevenage.DON’T MISS: Rosberg puts pressure on FIA over cost cap saga with Hamilton theory Hamilton has admitted he doesn’t like driving (Image: Jimmy Kimmel Live )’When I get home I have an old Mini Cooper, like the Mr Bean car, and I go and take it down the town I grew up in and I go down memory lane,’ he added. I go past my first school, I go past my first house. No one would expect me in that car, that’s for sure!’Hamilton was appearing on Jimmy Kimmel after a P2 finish at the US Grand Prix in Texas on Sunday. He had been handed the chance to end the Mercedes winless drought this season, but succumbed to the straight line speed of Max Verstappen’s dominant Red Bull after the Dutchman’s delayed pit stop.At present, Hamilton has no immediate plans to retire and still dreams of the record eighth world title that agonisingly eluded him as he was dramatically edged out by Verstappen in the 2021 season. Hamilton instead wants to put ‘full focus’ into the new film and TV production company that he has launched in conjunction with manager Penni Thow when his racing career ends. Hamilton’s company Dawn Apollo Films already has exciting new projects, including an F1 film starring Brad Pitt, and a show documenting his own journey in motorsport.’When I stop racing – which I don’t plan on doing for a while, I still feel I’m in a good place – I want it to be seamless,’ he told Deadline. ‘I want to be able to move on to fully focus on Dawn Apollo Films and to be able to jump in at a similar level to what I’ve been used to.’
