‘Grenfell’ cladding work in disarray, papers show

Attempts to remove dangerous Grenfell-style cladding in Scotland are in “disarray” as new documents revealed that the success of the project “is in doubt”.

Labour has criticised the Scottish government’s handling of the cladding replacement scheme after government papers, obtained after a request made under the freedom of information law, showed that the future of the project is at risk.

The cladding was partially blamed for the spread of the fire at the London high-rise block in 2017, which killed 72 people.

A “delivery confidence assessment” revealed that the programme to replace cladding in Scotland had been downgraded to “amber/red”, which means “successful delivery of the project [is] in doubt with major risks or issues apparent”. It said “urgent action” was required to establish whether
