Greenwood told when he will learn his Man Utd fate as investigation ‘nears end’

Manchester United are reportedly aiming to make a final decision on Mason Greenwood’s future before the Red Devils’ first game of the season against Wolves on August 14. Greenwood has not played for the club since January 2022. Greenwood remains suspended while United continue an internal investigation. According to ESPN , the inquiry is ‘nearing its conclusion’ ahead of the new season. A statement from the club back in February, read: “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped. “The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.” Mason Greenwood will hear about his Man Utd future before the start of the season (Image: GETTY) Greenwood was not present for the senior squad’s first pre-season training session on Thursday but has been training alone and is allowed to play football again following the conclusion of his trial. Atalanta are reportedly keen on signing Greenwood if he departs this summer and could be made part of a swap deal for Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund.  Tutto Atalanta  claim that the youngster is among the Serie A side’s top targets as they look to secure Champions League football next season. With Erik ten Hag restricted by a £120m budget, which he has already spent half of on Mason Mount, the opportunity to reduce Hojlund’s £86m asking price will certainly appeal especially considering he is also in the market for a first-choice goalkeeper as well. If they cannot recoup enough funds to match Inter’s asking price then they will be forced to recruit a cheaper alternative. Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow and Kevin Trapp of Eintracht Frankfurt are seen as solid replacements for the recently departed David de Gea and are both reasonably priced at £20m. However, Ten Hag is planning on balancing the books at Old Trafford with several outgoings this summer to help increase his transfer budget including captain Harry Maguire , Fred, Scott McTominay and Jadon Sancho. Whether Greenwood will join this list as well is yet to be seen but he will know by next month.
