Grandmother ‘deserved a better death’

Teresa Mullen is remembered for her compassion. She once heard about a young pregnant woman sleeping on the floor of a student house because she had nowhere else to go. The next day that woman was living with Teresa in her Dublin home.

She went on to quietly set up a local women’s group, cooking and cleaning for new mothers and women with health problems. Teresa volunteered to care for the sick and the dying. Later in life, she would sit with a friend who could no longer speak after a stroke. For hours they would talk with pen and paper. Teresa told her grandchildren that it was even more important to listen to people who struggled to be heard.
