Manchester United fans can’t rule out Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani making a sixth offer to buy the club from the Glazer family, according to reports. And the Qatari businessman’s previous actions suggest that the unpopular United owners know what they are doing by playing the patient game in the takeover process. Over 10 months ago, the Glazers announced a strategic review that included a potential sale after 18 years at the summit of the Old Trafford hierarchy. Sheikh Jassim has battled Sir Jim Ratcliffe to take control at United, but the Glazers have held firm on their inflated £6billion valuation. Both parties’ final offers were reportedly worth around £5bn, leaving a significant gap between the proposals and the asking price. But Sheikh Jassim twice increased his bid after allegedly handing the Glazers a take-it-or-leave-it offer to remain competitive with Ratcliffe. And there is hope among sections of the fanbase that he will bow down to stubborn sellers and cough up what it will take to come into power in M16 to spark a new era. The Glazers want a fee closer to their £6bn valuation and the report claims that the Qatari billionaire may have no other choice than to give in to their demands if he wants to acquire Manchester United. United fans continue to strongly protest against the Glazers, chanting in opposition to the American family’s rule every time the team take to the pitch.
