Girl, 11, savaged in XL bully dog attack wants it put down and owner jailed

An 11-year-old who was attacked by an XL bully prompting the Home Secretary to look into banning the breed has said she wants it “to go and die” after leaving her injured. Ana Paun, 11, told Sky News: “I want him to go and die. I think the dogs like that should be banned. The owner should be in prison. He never did anything. He just let the dog bite everyone.” Police are looking to speak to the owner of the animal that attacked three people in Birmingham as the animal remains in “secure kennels”. Home Secretary Suella Braverman said on Sunday she was seeking “urgent advice” about banning the American XL bully breed after footage emerged showing the shocking attack at a petrol station in Bordesley Green. Ms Braverman said the dogs were a “clear and lethal” danger after the video of the attack appeared on the social media platform TikTok . Two men intervened but were chased and bitten, leaving injuries to their shoulders and arms. They were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries. The dog was taken to a vet to be checked over before being placed in secure kennels while an investigation continues. Suella Braverman said the breed pose a “clear and lethal danger” to people – particularly children – with a number of attacks having taken place this year alone. Ana Paun said the breed should be banned (Image: SWNS) There has been concern that the breed will be difficult to ban due to not being recognised as a specific breed by the Kennel Club and could result in the outlawing of other breeds. A Dogs Trust spokesman told ITV : “Dogs Trust wants to see the current dog control laws replaced with one consolidated law that allows for early intervention with a focus on the prevention of dog bite incidents and includes measures that deter and punish owners of dogs whose behaviour is dangerous. “We will continue to look for reform in existing dog control laws until we are satisfied that any new measures are preventative, breed-neutral and effective, and ultimately protect both dogs and people alike.” There are currently four banned breeds of dog in the UK: the pit bull terrier, Japanese tosa, dogo Argentino and fila Brasileiro. A row broke out on GMB this morning over whether or not the breed should be banned (Image: ITV) This morning, a row broke out on Good Morning Britain after dog trainer Kay Taiwo pushed back at calls for a ban as she claimed the breed was “not bred or made to be ultra aggressive”. But a dog behavioural expert Stan Rawlinson slammed the trainer, saying: “This dog is not a nice dog”. A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We’re investigating after three people were bitten by a dog in Birmingham yesterday. An 11-year-old girl ran past the dog as it was being walked by its owner in Bordesley Green, when she was bitten. Two men intervened but were bitten and left with injuries to their shoulders and arms. “They were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries. The dog was initially taken to a local vet to be checked over before being taken into secure kennels while the investigation continues. The owner of the dog has been spoken to by officers.”
