Court records were unsealed after his preliminary hearing on Friday morning, which was held at the Arthur M. Cromarty Criminal Court Complex in Riverhead, New York. Heuermann is accused of murdering three women, who were part of the group deemed the "Gilgo Four" — the first bodies linked to the Long Island Serial Killer (LISK). Melilssa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello died at the hands of the businessman, court records allege. And there could have been other victims whose lives were allegedly claimed by Heuermann. The bodies of the Gilgo Four were discovered by Police Officer John Mallia on December 11, 2010, while he searched for the body of Shannan Gilbert. Gilbert, a 23-year-old sex worker, frantically called 911 on May 1 that year and told operators that people were trying to kill her. She was last seen in the Oak Beach community by residents Gus Coletti and Barbara Brennan. Mallia scoured the brush on the side of Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach for her body that December after receiving a tip that bodies are often dumped on the side of remote highways. Ocean Parkway fit the bill. While the search didn't yield any clues as to her whereabouts, Mallia's cadaver dog, a German Shepherd named Blue, located the remains of Melissa Berthelemy, a 24-year-old aspiring hairstylist who disappeared on July 12, 2009.
