Gentle and effective method banishes creases from clothing without using an iron

Ironing garments is a laborious chore that can take hours to complete, however, there’s nothing worse than attending a job interview or an important meeting with a creased shirt. Luckily, homeowners don’t need an iron to remove wrinkles and creases from their clothes. Fantastic Service ‘s domestic cleaning expert and supervisor Petya Holevich has shared several effective methods homeowners can use if they don’t own an iron or want to avoid spending hours ironing clothes. The best method will naturally depend on the fabric type of the clothing item and the equipment available. Steaming Petya said: ‘Steaming is a gentle and effective method to remove wrinkles, particularly for delicate fabrics. ‘Gentle’ and ‘effective’ method banishes wrinkles from clothing without using an iron (Image: Getty) ‘There are various options you can use, such as handheld steamers or garment steamers. For this method, hang the garment on a hanger or use a steamer-specific hanger to hold it in place. ‘Hold the steamer a few centimetres away from the fabric and move it up and down, allowing the steam to penetrate the fibres and smooth out the wrinkles. ‘For more efficient performance, it’s recommended to steam your clothes after wearing them, as steamers work best on lightly wrinkled clothes.’ Tumble drying This method only works for clothes that are safe to tumble dry. Simply place wrinkled clothing in the dryer with a damp washcloth or a few ice cubes. The heat and moisture will create steam which should help to smooth out the wrinkles. Once the cycle has finished, remove the clothes immediately and hang them up or lay them flat to prevent new wrinkles from forming. To save time and energy, tumble dry multiple garments together that are made from a similar fabric and have similar care instructions. However, homeowners need to check the care labels on clothing items before using any of these methods as different fabrics may require specific temperatures or different techniques to prevent damage. Silk and wool for example may shrink or become damaged if it’s put in the tumble dryer. When storing clothes, make sure clothes are hung up or folded neatly to minimise the appearance of wrinkles in the first place.
