Erik ten Hag will name a new Manchester United skipper shortly after taking the armband from Harry Maguire – with the Englishman tipped to complete a summer transfer
Gary Neville has praised Harry Maguire for his “amazing response” after he was stripped of the Manchester United captaincy.
Erik ten Hag has taken the armband from Maguire after he struggled to stay in his starting XI last season. The England international made just eight Premier League starts during the 2022/23 campaign and is now being tipped to complete a transfer.
Maguire has made 175 appearances for United since he arrived from Leicester in an £80million deal four years ago, becoming the most expensive defender in history. It’s believed Ten Hag has slapped a £50m price tag on the centre-back.
Bruno Fernandes is the favourite to replace Maguire as United’s captain after wearing the armband for much of last season, while Casemiro is also in the running. An announcement on the new captain is expected before United’s friendly against Arsenal on Saturday.
