Gardening guru’s genius £1 coin trick will transform your lawn from sparse to lush

Before we head into winter and temperatures drop, you should look after your garden in preparation for next year. A gardening guru has shared an easy trick of his to make the job easier

As any keen gardener would know, preparing your garden now will mean a bountiful lawn next year that is bound to be the envy of your neighbours. While this will involve a lot of primping and pruning, you should also fix any unsightly patches through a process called “overseeding”.

It’s completely normal to have areas of the lawn that are a little thin on the ground thanks to normal wear and tear, after all, gardens are meant to be enjoyed. Thankfully overseeding helps to revive these areas, replacing patchiness, dead grass and weeds with a fuller, luscious lawn. Better yet, a gardening guru has shared their £1 coin trick that makes the whole process that much easier.

Timothy Green from iCANLAWN.com explained that while overseeing is an easy process, there are a few things people should check before doing it. For grass seeds to thrive, gardeners need the weather to stay above 10 degrees consistently for about two weeks. They should also avoid overseeding in extremely hot or chilly weather because the grass seeds will struggle to grow.

To ensure you’re giving your garden the best chance to thrive, Timothy said you should get rid of any moss, dead grass or weeds before laying any seed down. “Then you should mow the lawn as you won’t be able to while the new grass is growing. And if you have any areas that are uneven, or have low-quality soil, use some topsoil to even these out,” he explained to the Express.
