Gabriel Martinelli outlines Arsenal situation with telling contract statement

Gabriel Martinelli has spoken about his long-term future with Arsenal, with the Gunners keen to extend his current contract and ward off interest from Liverpool and Chelsea

Gabriel Martinelli has made it clear that he is close to signing a new contract with Arsenal – and joked he “just needs a pen” to make it happen.

Martinelli has been one of the standout performers for Arsenal during their brilliant early-season form, contributing five goals and two assists in 12 Premier League games so far. As Mirror Football reported last month, the 21-year-old is in line for a new contract, along with Bukayo Saka and William Saliba.

The Brazilian forward is currently under contract with Arsenal until June 2024, while the club also holds the option to extend that deal for a further year. But they are ready to increase his weekly wage from £70,000 to around £200,000 in order to ward off interest from Liverpool and Chelsea.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s final Europa League game against FC Zurich on Thursday, Martinelli said he would be delighted to sign a new contract.
