Morrisons saved McColl’s from administration earlier this year, but now the supermarket has announced that more than 100 of the convenience stores may have to close
Morrisons is set to close 132 of its “loss-making” McColl’s stores – with 1,300 roles at risk.
The supermarket confirmed it would purchase the failing convenience store chain in May this year, as part of a £190million rescue deal.
At the time, some 16,000 roles were at risk of being made redundant and 1,100 stores were in line for closure.
Today, Morrisons unveiled plans to overhaul the convenience retailer after competition regulators said last week that they were set to clear the takeover.
