The MRH-90 Taipan went down at about 10.30pm on Friday night and the crew are yet to be found
Four Australian military aircrew are missing after their helicopter crashed in waters off the country’s northeast coast while on a major military exercise.
Defence Minister Richard Marles said on Saturday that the MRH-90 Taipan went down at about 10.30pm on Friday night (1.30pm BST) off Hamilton Island in Queensland and that “as we speak to you now the four aircrew are yet to be found”.
Officials announced a pause in the 30,000-strong Exercise Talisman Sabre, a training operation involving forces from Australia, the US and Western allies including Japan, France, Germany, and South Korea.
The families of the crew have been notified and a search is underway.
