Marcus Maddison, who began his career at Newcastle United, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and will be sentenced next month
A former Newcastle United player threw cheesy chips at a 60-year-old woman before leaving her with multiple facial fractures following a single punch, Teeside Crown Court heard.
Marcus Maddison, 29, who began his career as a youth team player with Newcastle and has gone on to play for Charlton and Hull among others, broke the woman’s nose after an alcohol-fuelled night out in Darlington on September 22 of last year.
He previously pleaded guilty to a charge of grievous bodily harm without intent at a hearing on June 20 and has been granted unconditional bail.
Recorder Paul Reid adjourned the case for a personal victim statement and updated medical evidence and told Maddison to return to court on August 8 for sentencing.
