Former German MP ‘smuggled coup plotters into Reichstag’

A former MP for the hard-right AfD party smuggled three fellow coup plotters into the Reichstag to reconnoitre entry points for a plan to storm parliament and overthrow the government, according to new court documents.

Birgit Malsack-Winkemann, who was also a judge in Berlin, was arrested in December with 24 other suspected ringleaders of a plot to install the aristocrat Heinrich XIII Prince Reuss, 71, as German leader and restore the monarchy.

The revelations contained in court papers suggest that the Patriotic Union of Reich Citizens, an anti-establishment movement intent on restoring Germany to its prewar borders, progressed further than previously known in its plans.

The conclusions of the Federal Court of Justice in a review of the arrest warrants were obtained by Der Spiegel
