Once again, the UK’s housing sector is in the eye of the storm. Since 1997, the revolving door at the Ministry of Housing has ejected no fewer than 21 housing ministers. Is it any wonder there has been no coherent housing strategy in that time?
Such flux has led to serious consequences. Because not enough new homes are being built, there is an affordability crisis. This core problem has been compounded by interest rate hikes, labour shortages, volatile material costs and economic headwinds, as well as an overburdened and under-resourced planning system.
It is becoming extremely difficult to get onto the housing ladder and, as a result, more people are either renting, or living with their parents for longer than they would like. For those
