First satellite pics show Putin’s prized sub and warship blown up by British-made missiles

A Russian submarine and warship, worth close to £1bn, were damaged in the pre-dawn barrage on the Sevastopol shipyard – allegedly at the hands of British missiles

Fresh satellite photos from the battleground in Crimea have shown the smouldering wreckage of two prized Russian naval assets after a strike using British missiles.

A Russian submarine and warship, worth close to £1bn, were damaged in the pre-dawn barrage on the Sevastopol, allegedly at the hands of British missiles. The attack in the port city, which serves as the main base for Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, appeared to be one of the biggest in recent weeks. Russia’s Defense Ministry said Ukraine launched 10 cruise missiles at the shipyard and three sea drones at Russian ships in the Black Sea.

New dramatic photos shared on Twitter show the huge damage inflicted on the landing ship “Minsk” and the Kilo-class “Rostov-on-Don” attack submarine. Pictures showed the crumbling, charred remains as smoke continued to billow. Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Moscow-appointed governor of Sevastopol, said on Telegram that the resulting fire injured 24 people. He posted a photo showing the shipyard in flames with smoke billowing over it. Ukraine confirmed it struck Russian naval targets and port infrastructure but has not officially said how.

“The drones focused on the air defence systems and their radars. After disabling the radar stations, the navy units hit the S300 and S400 ‘Triumph’ systems, which is worth $1.2bn, by two Neptune cruise missiles”, the source said. The UK gave Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine’s armed forces earlier in the year. They are able to be fired by Ukrainian aircraft, with a range of more than 150 miles.
