The Williams driver launched his new clothing line ahead of this weekend’s race to a positive reaction. The Thai-British driver unveiled his new project ahead of the Singapore GP with a comedic launch video, in which he set up a boardroom sketch with his pets to discuss some new merchandise options. In the reveal, he joked: ‘So I’ve been in Formula 1 for what, four years now? And we still don’t have any merchandise. I see this as a pretty big problem. We’ve got our deadline fast approaching, I’ve given you guys so much time. What have you guys come up with?” This new drop, which is available to purchase at the driver’s personal online shop, is the first under the Alex Albon Athletics brand umbrella and comprised of a pair of suede-covered trainers, named the ‘Classic Marina’ in honour of the Marina Bay street circuit. Fortunately for the Williams star, the trainers have been extremely well-received. The drop sold out in four of the ten sizes ahead of qualifying on Saturday and multiple drivers were spotted wearing the shoes in the paddock. Aston Martin’s two-time world champion posted a picture of himself in Albon’s new shoes to his Instagram story ahead of Saturday’s action, tagging the 27-year-old in the post while attaching a salute emoji. Alonso wasn’t the only driver to be pictured in a pair of Albon’s new sneakers. In a picture capturing a paddock meet-up between the McLaren and AlphaTauri driver pairings, Yuki Tsunoda could be seen rocking a new pair of the Classic Marina trainers. Are you taking your dog for a walk? Getting some groceries? Playing a round of golf? Doing a track walk? The Classic Marina is designed to be worn everywhere & everyday (F1-race-durability still being tested). ‘My super professional artisans (team led by Stan, Otter & Moomoo) have handpicked the softest hairy suede to ensure a premium feel. Speaking from experience: if you mostly wear t-shirts & jeans, the Classic Marina can instantly help elevate your outfit and transform you into a global style icon.’ In releasing his own fashion line, Albon is following in the footsteps of Lewis Hamilton, who has enjoyed plenty of success with the launch of his ‘+44’ limited edition launches throughout the 2023 season.
